WGCU published a story outlining the scope of Southwest Florida Proton, detailing the construction timeline, facility specs and science behind proton therapy.
The reporter, Sheldon Zoldan, interviewed Dr. Arie Dosoretz, a board-certified radiation oncologist with Advocate Radiation Oncology who is managing partner for Southwest Florida Proton. He also interviewed Ali Onuralp, vice president of North American sales for IBA, the Belgium company providing the proton machine.
Dr. Dosoretz call proton therapy “a missing cancer tool in Southwest Florida. Meanwhile, Onuralp noted that “proton therapy is “the most advanced form of radiation therapy” on the market today.
The story also addressed another concept critical in Southwest Florida Proton’s development – medical tourism. The project is expected to bring short-term visitors to the region during their treatment periods, which can be several days to several weeks.
