It is often preferred for patients who have undergone radiation previously as well.

How Proton Treatment Works

Unlike traditional radiation therapy, proton therapy uses tiny particles from the center of an atom – protons. This is beneficial for many types of cancer because the beam can pinpoint the cancer cells, minimally impacting healthy tissue near the target. In addition to protecting the area near a tumor, the proton beam stops on the target instead of radiating through it and potentially harming healthy cells behind the target area.
