Managing Partner Dr. Arie Dosoretz, a board-certified radiation oncologist with Advocate Radiation Oncology, noted that “Southwest Florida residents and visitors deserve access to every tool that we have in our cancer-fighting arsenal.” Proton therapy is a highly advanced type of radiation therapy that uses charged protons to destroy targets. It is an effective treatment option for many types of cancer, including brain and spine, esophagus, head and neck, lung, liver, pancreas and prostate. Proton therapy also is used to treat lymphomas and soft tissue sarcomas.
